Jennifer Blanke, Vice President for Agriculture, Human and Social Development, African Development Bank, says the COVID-19 pandemic has indicted countries and development partners on the  fragility of Africa’s health systems and the limited availability of social services to support citizens during crises.

In addition to the infrastructure required to respond readily to crisis, Blanke emphasizes the urgent need to train Africa’s next generation of medical and health professionals. She says Africa should also consider a renewed push to develop the continent’s pharmaceutical industry.
